Say It A'int So. . . .

It's been well over a year since I have posted on this blog - odd considering all that we have been through over the last 13 months. We had an election, insurrection, and increased infection in spite of vaccination being available to the nation. That all sounds so very "Hamilton" doesn't it? One day there will likely be movies and/or Broadway plays about this chapter in our history and hopefully audiences will wonder what the hell was wrong with people. I say hopefully because the alternative is that audiences will resemble those in the 30's and 40's that viewed Nazi propaganda films. Anyway, recent developments bring me back to the keyboard as indications are that Donald Trump will run for President in 2024, and given the widespread push to curb voting rights, I fear he could win. So, I have penned this letter to those on the right side of the political aisle (assuming those unvaccinated folks are still alive in November 2024). Dear Republicans, Conservat

There Are Two Ways To Be Happy:

Improve your reality, or lower your expectations. (Jodi Picoult) From the reality of the past three plus years, it is obvious that somewhere between 35% and 40% of our population have chosen significantly lower expectations. That is a sad commentary on our current state of affairs. To Mask Or Not To Mask

That is the question. It is a question that puts Americans on either side of a great divide. The anti-maskers typically fall on the conservative side of the political spectrum and often cite individual freedom as a reason for going sans mask. You might also hear some conspiracy theory mantra from them or hear that the mask can make you sick. The anti-maskers often downplay the effects and severity of the coronavirus. They generally base their knowledge and understanding of the virus on the proclamations of the President rather than epidemiologists, virologists, and other healthcare professionals trained in combating disease. Will I change minds with this writing exercise? Highly doubtful. However I do think it's important to point out a few things to give context to masking decisions. First, I realize that by wearing a mask I won't necessarily guarantee I will not contract the disease. Experts have noted from the beginning that masks can help prevent transmitting the diseas

Parsnip, Stooge, Reciprocity, and Slime

Logic / Critical Thinking Exercise The following scenario is an exercise in thought. Any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Background info: Daniel Trunk is the CEO of a very large company. His contract is up for renewal and he very much wants to remain CEO for four more years. He is known for his bombastic style and his penchant for telling easily provable lies. One publication has documented over 16,000 lies or misstatements over the past three years. This includes public statements and statements made via social media. Rowdy Julionus is Daniel’s personal attorney. Rowdy is very loyal to Daniel and is actively engaged in working to ensure Daniel gets a new four-year contract. Levi Parsnip is a known associate of Rowdy’s. Levi has worked with Rowdy and others in support of Daniel. Coincidentally, as a young man, Levi worked for Friedrich Trunk, Daniel’s father. Levi is under indictment for financial impropriety related to his work for outsi

Trumper Cables – A blog to jolt you into logical thought

WARNING: If you are a Trump Supporter, this will challenge your pre-conceived notions that somehow Donald J. Trump represents the best interests of the United States. Read with an open mind. You might actually see my point. DISCLAIMER: All opinions on this blog are my own and quite obviously do not reflect the opinions of the Donald J. Trump supporters who swallow every lie he tells, overlook his obvious corruption – Russiagate, Ukrainegate, Pornstargate, TrumpFoundationgate, TrumpUniversitygate, AllHisAssociatesIndictedAndInJailgate, EmolumentsClausegate, etc., etc., ad nauseum - have no problem with the sham impeachment trial being held in the U.S. Senate, and somehow believe Mitch McConnell, William Barr, Mike Pompeo, Lindsey Graham, Kevin McCarthy, Devin Nunes, et al have the best interests of the United States at heart. RANDOM THOUGHTS Please pardon the disjointed nature of this blog. My goal is not flowery prose, but rather to get myriad thoughts on pap

The Case Against Donald J. Trump

Or Slam Dunk Arguments for Dummies It's been over one year since I posted. Time to return with a singularity of purpose. . . . We are 11 months away from the election of 2020. The House will impeach, but the Senate will not convict, therefore I present the first in a series of articles that will likely have the same effect as spitting into the wind. The doggedly determined support of Donald Trump is baffling to me, but. . . . I will try. I have to shine a light on his failings so that those who voted for Trump in 2016 can avoid repeating their mistake. Religious Mockery I live in a red city in a red county in a red state. I understand conservative values – I hold some of them myself. Although some may define me as liberal, you will find I have centrist leanings and even tilt to the right in some areas. Oddly enough, my “liberal” values tend to be Christian values even though Christians; specifically Evangelical Christians, are very right leaning to the poin

A Midterm Night's Dream

“Though she be but little, she is fierce!” William Shakespeare’s words might be used to describe the Democratic Party in its upcoming election night battle with the Republican Party. After all, the GOP holds the House, Senate, White House, and a majority of state houses as well. The Democratic underdogs are determined and working hard for a “Blue Wave”. The curious thing about this is that despite the underdog reputation, according to the Gallup Organization, 30% of voters consider themselves Democrats vs. 28% Republicans. Independents are the leaders at 39%. Later in this piece you will see results of a survey that show the majority of registered voters tend to side with the Democratic opinion on most major issues. For the Blue Wave to occur, Democrats are counting on large voter turnout and having their message make inroads with independent voters. The results of the 2016 election and subsequent Democratic minority (excluding Russian interference) can be laid squarely at
